Pure Step Carpet Deodorizer & Refresher – Pet Odor Neutralizer (32 oz)

This worked really well for an outdoor carpet that gets heavy foot traffic from humans and my small dog. Being outdoors in the Florida weather, the rug goes through intense cycles of humidity and dryness, which eventually leads to a lingering musty smell. The carpet wasn't visibly soiled, so I can't speak to this powder's effectiveness against direct urine or feces stains, but it completely eliminated the subtle, stale odor and drastically improved the experience of being in the space.I was initially worried the lemon scent might be overpowering, but I was relieved to find it isn't very strong at all. Instead of masking the odor with heavy perfume, it just neutralized the bad smell and left a clean freshness in the air with a very subtle hint of lemon.Application was incredibly simple. I liberally spread it out all over the carpet and vacuumed it up shortly after. Because the space is quite large, I knew it would take a while to vacuum from one side to the other, so I didn't worry about strictly timing the dwell period. It spread smoothly and lifted right up into the vacuum. My carpet is on the darker side, so any leftover white powder would be immediately obvious, but as you can see in the attached "after" photos, it left absolutely zero residue behind. I used a little over half of the container for this large area, leaving me enough for a second application down the road. Over a month has passed since I applied it, and the musty scent still hasn't returned. This is an excellent value and very easy to use.

I ordered this carpet deodorizer powder after doing a little research on Hyvia Health and discovering they're predominantly a health-based company that makes products for humans and pets, so I felt confident it would be safe to use around my animals. I'm a category two wildlife rehabilitator with over thirty five years of experience in domestic pet rescue as well, and in an average year quite a few animals come through my home. For my sanity, when I refinished my house I did mostly hardwood floors, with the exception of the bedroom and some throw rugs plus a large living room carpet that I fell in love with. Unfortunately, my own pets laugh at things like invisible boundaries to bedrooms with carpet, so there's a steady amount of paw traffic going on across all my carpeted areas.The only real way to remove pet odors is to use an enzyme cleaner, and I knew that before I even ordered this, so that claim I'm very skeptical about. I use a rug scrubber every month and a steam shot by Bissell for accidents or spills, but I wanted something I could shake onto the carpet before vacuuming that would freshen it without irritating anyone's respiratory systems. Even though this has a citrus lemon scent, the citric acid content is minimal and safe for cats and dogs, so I wasn't worried about using it in a home with multiple species. The smell is quite pleasant if you like lemon citrus scents. It's not an overpowering smell and doesn't smell strongly synthetic or utilitarian like the kind of industrial cleaners they use in hospitals and schools, just a nice lemon fresh scent.I've only used it a few times so far because with animals I'm very careful about introducing anything dusty into their environment unless absolutely necessary. Even using a small amount just those two or three times, I had great results in terms of freshness. I made sure to wait until I had a nice day and could ventilate the area well by opening all the windows, and I closed off the rooms that had the powder sitting on the carpet. I left it on for about twenty to thirty minutes so it really set in before vacuuming. It vacuumed up very easily with no issues with residual powder left behind. I kept the animals out of the bedroom for about four to six hours after vacuuming just to be safe.I haven't tried it on any furniture yet since I keep couch covers and blankets on any beds or couches and just normally toss those in the wash, but I'll probably try this once or twice a year to spring clean couches and freshen them up. None of the animals seem to have any kind of reaction to this, which was my biggest concern going in. The bottle itself is well designed with a shaker top that makes it easy to control how much you're using, and at thirty two ounces there's a decent amount of product. It's a little pricey at just under twenty five dollars, but I expect it will last a while since a little bit goes a long way if you're just using it for freshening up.I would not recommend this for removing pet stains, at least ones that involve fluids. You really need an enzyme odor eater for that kind of stain, but to just freshen things up I think it's great. I probably would not feel comfortable putting this directly on pet bedding without making sure it was very well shaken out afterwards and fully aired, as animals' respiratory tracts are much more sensitive than ours and even trace amounts of dust and chemicals can be easily breathed in by them. It's never a good idea to put cleaning chemicals in close proximity to where they sleep. Otherwise I would absolutely recommend this for anyone looking for a safe way to freshen carpets in a home with pets.

Great product. Easy to spread with the multiple cap openings. Lemony smell is still there after applying to my carpet last week. Love that it’s organic as I have young ones constantly rolling / laying on the floor. Certainly worth the cost.

The lemon smell is perfect, not overpowering. I'll update if I run into any issues, but it works wonderfully.

This worked perfectly for freshening up a rug I have by my front door that my dog loves to lay on. The lemon scent is nice and most importantly it is organic so is safe to use for my pup's favorite rug.
